Ingrid Larouche tries her new Flymount and ISAW USA camera

Ingrid Larouche tries her new Flymount and the ISAW Camera USA. Not a camera I've tried but it's a GoPro mount camera, and looks much like a GoPro so it will be interesting to see what real users make of it.
From the footage I've seen it's not such high saturation as the latest GoPros but that's not always a disadvantage for video. You can easily add extra contrast and saturation in post, but losing it is pretty well impossible.
We'll try and get hold of an ISAW to test over the next year and report back.
In the meantime, here are some shots from Ingrid's first trial of her new toys:

Ben Proffitt's guide to good windsurfing video

In case you missed it - Ben Proffitt's guide to windsurfing POV photography, cameras, and of course mounts:
http://www.windsurf.co.uk/p-o-v-filming-guide/

Extract from Ben's review in Windsurf Magazine:

"MOUNTS
Flymount
The first thing to add to your shopping list is the Flymount 2.
Now this is an awesome mount designed for windsurfers by windsurfers – and it certainly shows. The MK I model was good, but I have to say the small change to 2 really has made this the ‘mount of mounts’ and a must for any windsurfer with an action camera. If you’re going to buy one mount make it this one as it’s super easy to use and takes up no space, plus you can get a few different angles out of it. (Including some good ones of any bald patches you may have!) The main ones I use are the mast and the front of the boom.

PROS
• Very versatile. You can stick it on your mast, front of boom, back of boom etc.

• So easy to clamp and secure

• Small and lightweight

• Cheap

• Great for clamping to anything else off the water. (Mountain bike etc.)

• So much better than the actual GoPro mounts

CONS: Err, I can’t think of any!"

The day's John Carter windsurfing shot - brilliant

I love this shot, it gives me the sense of that bright sea and sun day when every sense is heightened and you have endless energy.
There's something spiritual about those times.
Everything about this shot works aesthetically, the composition, the light and the frozen action.

Great Flymount windsurf boom shots by John Carter

John Carter shows his skills in this boom shot, mounting upside down on the end of the boom gives a fantastic view and feel for the moment.

Moving your Flymount from various positions on the boom and mast gives the variety that makes for good images and video footage.
Being a Flymount, it's fast to move into place and set up the shot.

This is at the PWA World Tour again.

Flymounts in South Africa

FLYMOUNTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE IN SOUTH AFRICA!

Bay Sports of Cape Town is the place to get them! www.baysports.co.za

Here's a couple of shots of Mitch Wagstaff testing the product out:

Jonathan Blake racing MEV Exocet at Brands Hatch

Jonathan Blake was racing at Brands Hatch in the Mazda based MEV Exocet from the Nottinghamshire works of Stuart Mills's MEV workshop.

We wanted to fit Flymounts and a variety of small cameras - GoPro, Contour and Drift - to the body and roll-bars but we had to get through scrutineering first. Having tested the Flymounts they were pronounced safe and secure and the guys left for some warm-up laps.

Our original intention was to have two cars with cameras behind them and by the mirrors so we could build a decent set of sequences into a short video.

All did not go well because the Contour, left in the hands of the other driver, was not switched on - although he thought he had done. So we ended up with the GoPro facing Jonathan and the Drift shooting from the roll bar. The weather was great and the shots and video were brilliant, now I want to do it again but much better and with more, and better cameras. I think the sensible option is simply to use one brand so all the footage will match nicely, so it will be GoPro this time on both cars.

Flymounts don't grow on trees - but they work on branches!

During a little shoot in the Languedoc region of France we were by a sparkling river cutting through the limestone near Minerve when we needed a shot from a position that precluded a tripod.
Flymount to the rescue, the little Panansonic GH1 we were using, with the wonderful hack by Vitaliy Kiselev, was easily supported on the usefully round branches of the local trees.
Cameras like the GH1-4 and the Olympus micro 4/3rds are fine in static situations and sometimes it's only a fixing like a Flymount that gets you into the great positions. Just don't expect them to work on a roll bar on a racing track!
See our Papua New Guinea shots for how they work in the jungle and on the rivers.

Here are some shots from the day:

Flymount shot of the day underwater on a pole

Flymounts on poles make great images, with a little imagination!

Flymount used by TV crews on racing cars

We were shooting at a grasstrack meet in the UK with Simon Reeve, trying out a sacrificial Drift camera (wrecked the lens pretty quickly with mud and stone strikes!) and the ex Top Gear Stig, Ben Collins, was doing some celebrity racing for Channel 5.
The guys in the film crew had some great kit, expensive, which disintegrated quickly under the crazy conditions that is Grasstrack racing. They lost a mount and camera to vibration which caused the whole lot to fall off.
We'd had a few races with Flymounts and found them utterly reliable and the cameramen came over to ask if the could buy one so they could continue to shoot. We were happy to donate a Flymount to them and we keep seeing Flymounts in all sorts of action situations ever since. The same team use our Flymount on the Gadget Show and lots of other wet and harsh shoots.
Channel 5 lost £1800 of equipment and replaced it with a £65 Flymount which did the job better and more securely. Not a bad investment! (even if we did give it them for nothing)
Here are some shots of the day

Centre mast mounted Flymount for down the luff shots - shoot any angle with this set-up

Flymounts are great for boom and mast shots on a windsurf rig but there is a belief that you can only shoot one side or the other.
Here's the simple safe way to shoot great images down the luff and still have your Flymount quickly available for those side and bottom boom positions that make such good shots.
See the image on white below - just add the GoPro extension supplied in your pack - simple and very stable in action. This is using the Flymount GoPro 2 adaptor.
Ultra versatile Flymounts are the world's best action camera mounts for windsurfing.

Great windsurfing shots from Jan Rifflet

Nice mounting the camera on the boom for different angles. Shooting your sport should always be done from multiple angles or you just get the same old view.
If you look at the way a film is shot you'll see the multitude of small 'cutaway' shots that build the picture by adding other views of the action. The same with your action shoots - make the effort to move your camera around the rig or frame and you'll be well rewarded.
That's the beauty of an action camera mount like Flymount, it's quick and easy to establish a secure fix in many positions, and you can be confident that your camera will still be there when you get back!
